CAM Green Back on the Championship-Leading Zelos Mini

Redgate Corner at Donnington was the final resting place of the CAM-branded Dan Zelos’ #45 motorcar during the April weekend of the Vertu Motors MINI CHALLENGE. Fast forward 6 races and the EXCELR8 driver is hoping his newfound race mojo plans to stay for the next round of racing this weekend at Oulton Park.

The 2022 race season that Zelos described as “one hell of a bumpy ride to say the least” led Dan to choose a 2023 race strategy that brought him back to focus on his love of racing, as he explains.

“We began the year with the motto ‘back to basics’. Putting no pressure on. Enjoying the driving experience. It’s really helped me find my feet.”

With the exception of the crash at Donnington that wrote off the CAM-branded vehicle, Zelos has been on winning form securing 3 further race wins in the spare JCW-built car that quickly replaced the original #DZ45. Given the recent run of good form, Zelos feels the new car is the right fit.

“We’ve decided to stick with the same car. It’s not worth swapping to a new car, because you run the risk of introducing mechanical issues. If it’s working, don’t fix it.”

Keeping the replacement car has meant the new DZ45 has been returned to its former’s glory and is now back to sporting its eye-catching CAM green stripe. Best dressed and current championship leader, Zelos has high hopes for this weekend at Oulton Park.

“I am back to leading the Vertu Motors MINI CHALLENGE Championship and hopefully, Oulton Park will give me the chance to extend the gap. It’s normally a track I’m successful at. Plus I’m in pole position, so I just need to get out there really and smash it!”
