Government ‘Mystery Shopper’ finds 78% of Tyre Retailers not Compliant with Tyre Labelling Information

The Market Surveillance Unit from the Department for Transport recently completed a mystery shopper exercise making tyre enquiries with 68 British tyre retailers. Their findings found 78% of those retailers were not compliant with their legal requirement to provide tyre labelling information*.

Although unsurprising, retailers non-compliance will take on new meaning now that the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will now be enforcing compliance through civil sanctions.

What are UK Tyre Suppliers and Tyre Retailers Tyre Labelling obligations?

The latest guidance from the DVSA is available via the .gov website. However the Tyre Industry Federation’s produced a document detailing tyre suppliers and distributors’ obligations on tyre labelling which makes for much easier digestion.
