At CAM, technology is at the heart of what we do, but it's our people who make it happen. Behind every solution we design, every system we implement, and every challenge we solve is a team of talented individuals bringing together a wide range of skills, perspectives, and experience.

To highlight the people behind our work, we've been running a blog series that introduces the team at CAM and the part they play in our success.

From engineering and product development to operations, customer support, sales, and leadership, each post shines a light on a different team member. You'll hear about their day-to-day role, the challenges they enjoy tackling, and how their work supports the wider business.

This series goes beyond job titles. It's about the people behind them. We'll explore career journeys, unexpected routes into tech, lessons learned along the way, and what it's really like to work at CAM.

Whether you're interested in learning more about our teams, considering a career with us, or simply want to understand how we work, we hope this series offers a closer look at the people behind CAM.

Next up is Jamie Parrin, Head of People. Jamie leads CAM's People function, covering HR, employee engagement and development, compliance, health & safety, finance support, and key business accreditations.

How long have you worked at CAM and what’s your role?

I joined CAM in March 2023 as HR & Administration Manager, a role that was rebranded in 2025 to Head of People to better reflect my responsibilities. Since then, my role has grown to include supporting the Finance team and additional Finance-related responsibilities.

My role also covers Compliance, Health & Safety, Finance support and ensuring the business has effective policies, processes and procedures in place. I lead on Health & Safety and Fire Safety, helping to maintain a safe, supportive and compliant working environment for all employees.

A key focus of my role is supporting our people through engagement, development and wellbeing initiatives. I work closely with the management team to support effective employee reviews, encouraging meaningful conversations around performance, growth and recognition.

I also oversee the ongoing maintenance and auditing of our ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 accreditations, ensuring our processes and controls remain effective and aligned with best practices. Alongside this, I led the work to maintain our Investors in People Gold accreditation, which showcases the strength of our people practices and employee experience.

Listening to our employees is an important part of my role, and I lead our internal employee questionnaires and listening groups to gather feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.

Recently, my responsibilities have expanded to include managing commissions, expenses and company vehicles, further broadening my role and enabling me to support the business across a wider range of operational areas.

What problem do you solve here that most people wouldn’t notice?

One example is the ongoing maintenance of the building and fire safety equipment. This includes weekly testing of the fire alarm system, arranging annual servicing for the heating, fire and air conditioning systems, and coordinating Health & Safety visits. I also ensure that any required checks, servicing and maintenance are completed within the appropriate timeframes and that issues identified are followed up and resolved. This requires regular planning and coordination with external contractors to ensure that the building remains a safe and suitable environment for employees.

From an HR perspective, I am continuously reviewing and maintaining the employee handbook and relevant policies to ensure they remain in line with changes to government legislation. I’m responsible for understanding the changes, assessing their impact on the business and employees. This is an ongoing process which requires me to stay up to date with legislative changes and ensure that the appropriate policies and procedures are updated on time.

What’s something you’ve worked on that you’re genuinely proud of?

I have attained CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management, introduced onboarding processes, inductions and policies such as our absence and remote working policies – it’s been great to see the improvements.

I was also heavily involved in a recent project to move our customer billing system to a more modern platform, which has reduced the work needed for our monthly recurring billing.

Attaining and retaining our ISO9001, 27001 and Investors in People Gold for the business.

What does a great day at work look like for you?

Firstly, as I’ve recently started learning finance, a day where I’ve learnt something new and it clicks is always a good day.

Secondly, when I’ve seen progression and a change in employee behaviours or performance through coaching from their line manager, previously, when I first joined, this would have been seeing the improvement in our line managers from working with them. We have had a few examples where an employee has progressed from one role to another, and it is always satisfying to see this.

What excites you about where the company is going?

From a People and HR point of view, we’ve made a lot of changes in a short period of time, so I’m excited to see how these changes impact the business over the next year. I’m also excited to see how we can innovate in our finance department.

Life outside of CAM

My wife and I have been married for 2 years now; we have a cat (Freya) and a dog (Leo) who keep us very busy. I’m a big football fan and up until the last year had been playing, but my dodgy knee seems to have put an end to that at the moment, so I enjoy playing online games, usually FIFA or fantasy games such as The Witcher 3 or Final Fantasy.
